These are the questions that come up again and again about Notion widgets: what they are, how to add one, whether they cost anything and why they sometimes stop working. Where it helps, I say how my own widgets at Dearly Peculiar handle it.
What is a Notion widget?
A small web app, such as a clock, calendar or habit tracker, that you place inside a Notion page with an Embed block. Notion shows the widget's own web page in a frame, so it stays live while the page is open.
Does Notion have its own widgets?
Not inside pages. Notion has databases, calendar views and other blocks, but clocks, timers, trackers and countdowns come from widget sites through an Embed block. The Notion phone app does have home-screen widgets, but those sit on your phone's home screen, not inside a page.
How do I add a widget to Notion?
Copy the widget's link, type /embed on a new line in Notion, paste the link and choose Embed. Then drag the block's edges to resize it. If Notion offers Bookmark or Mention instead, pick Embed. The one-minute guide has pictures of each step.
Are Notion widgets free?
It depends on the site: most have free widgets and charge for extras. Limits differ a lot, so check them before you build a page around one.
- Indify: up to six active widgets free (checked 12 October 2026).
- Dearly Peculiar: a free account embeds three different widgets and fully customises one. Beyond that, a single widget is £3, the Subscription £7 a month or £42 a year, and Lifetime £89 once.
The best free Notion widget sites compares more of them.
Are Notion widgets safe?
An embedded widget runs in its own frame, so it cannot read the rest of your Notion page or workspace. It only sees what you type into the widget itself. Check where a site keeps that: my widgets keep most entries in your own browser, and the site uses no advertising trackers.
Why is my Notion widget blank or not working?
Usually the link went in as a bookmark instead of an embed, the block is too small, or the widget site is having trouble. Re-add it with /embed, make the block taller, then open the link in a browser to see if the site loads. Notion widget not working? goes through each case.
Do Notion widgets work in the phone app?
Yes, embeds load in the Notion app on iPhone and Android. Give the block enough height, because a short embed can look blank or clipped on a narrow screen. Some widgets, including many of mine, have a portrait size made for phones.
Do Notion widgets work offline?
No. Notion lists embeds among the blocks that need an internet connection (Notion: use pages offline). Keep anything essential, such as dates or addresses, as ordinary Notion text too.
Why does my widget show different ticks on my phone and laptop?
Most widgets keep what you enter in the browser on that device. Notion syncs the page, but not what happens inside the embed. Why Notion widgets do not sync between devices explains which data goes where.
What happens to my widgets if the site closes?
The embeds go blank, and anything stored only inside them goes too. Keep the real record, such as dates, tasks or a reading list, in Notion itself and let the widget show it nicely. If an old provider has stopped loading, replacing a WidgetBox embed shows how to swap one out.
Can I use widgets in a Notion template I sell?
Check each site's licence first, because many are for personal use only. Mine are: a Dearly Peculiar widget can go in as many of your own pages as you like, but not in a template you sell or share, client work, a classroom or a business workspace.
What happens if I cancel a Dearly Peculiar subscription?
Cancelling stops the next renewal, and you keep access until the end of the period you paid for. Widgets already embedded in Notion stop working after that date. Single widgets and Lifetime do not renew, so there is nothing to cancel.
